Born in Ottawa, composer Daniel Séguin is recognized as one of Canada’s most versatile musical talents. A winner of two Gemini Awards and three Leo Awards, along with seven other nominations, he has established himself as one of the top composers in the business for the last 15 years. In recent years, he has emerged onto the music scene as a band leader with his own big band The Forward Motion Jazz Orchestra where he has also been contributing as a composer and arranger for the group.

His interest in composing music for film and television began at a very young age and developed while studying at the Conservatory of music of Québec and later at Humber College in Toronto where he also studied with Pat Labarbera (Buddy Rich), Don Johnson and Ron Collier (Duke Ellington).

He has written music for many award winning television series such as multi Gemini Award winner Human Cargo (CBC), Flash Gordon (Sci Fi Network) and Just Cause (PAX TV) as well as television movies like Murder Unveiled (CBC) A Beachcombers Christmas (CBC) and Knockout. Some of the documentaries he has written for are Leo Award winner Suicide Tourist (PBS and Canwest Global), College Days, College Nights and Gemini Award winner The Wild Horse Redemption, all directed by Academy Award winning director John Zaritsky, among others.

Versatility is one of many traits of his work. He is as comfortable writing for dramas as he is for documentaries, comedies and action films. He has a keen understanding of the importance of the narrative and how to support the story with music.

When not busy composing, Daniel loves to spend time with his wife Karyn and daughter Sabrina.
